Well “God & Me at Sea” was a great success. We topped out on Wednesday with 24 kids.
What a delight for us. During the week we spent time at
sea with God in lessons based around five scriptures helping us get to know him better:
~ Genesis 1: On
the fourth day, God made the creatures of the deep & birds of the air.
~ Genesis 7-9: God
told Noah to build an Ark to preserve life on earth after a great flood.
~ Jonah 1-3: God
told Jonah to go to Nineveh. Jonah didn’t exactly want to.
~ Matthew 14: 22-23: Jesus walked on water and told Peter to come to him!
~ John 21:1-14:
Peter’s nets are miraculously filled when Jesus tells him where to fish.
Each day brought:
Drama: we would
start off each day with a Bible Bob appearance. Bob
Krakovich would dress in character and bring the day’s story to life! What
a joy!
Song & dance: old &
young kids performing for each other – what talent we have in our youth.
New crafts: like
surfer necklaces, sun catchers and hand painted memories
Interestingly named
snacks: there was Edible Seaweed and Whale Vomit!! (okay the Seaweed was Triscuits with melted cheese and parsley
and the Whale Vomit was crushed bananas, whipped cream , chocolate chips and sprinkles in a chocolate pie crust – yum!) Then there were the whale cupcakes that were such a hit – waves, whales and
everything (thank you Gracie and Mommy).
Spectacular games: Lots
of bubbles and water balloons!! Discovering what it was like to be inside a whale
or being a fish in the water.
All this fun and we still learned!! Kids have already asked what next year’s theme is – actually many wanted it to be for 2 weeks
– WOW!
We want to thank all those that supported this endeavor:
the decorating volunteers - especially The Lynch and Brezina Families, Bob K.,
Vicki and Gabby Buttress. Their creative juices were really flowing when they
created a great under the sea effect in our church hall – from the big blowup Whale to the handmade – extra large
- Jelly fish! (very original Emily, Mary and David) The hall looked great!
For the parishioners and the parents and all who joined us on that wonderful Friday night to see our kids do their sendoff performances....
To Pastor Todd for his support through our 1st VBS in
a long time at UHUCC - thank you.
It really means a lot to see everyone’s support.
In the end this could not have happened without the teachers
who put in countless hours and prep time to ensure the success of this great adventure.
We want to give a BIG THANK YOU to: Nicole Lynch and Mable
Buttress for taking our younger kids on this great journey under the sea. Your
enthusiasm definitely flowed down to the children!
Also helping with the younger ones was Carole Fanslow
– the choir leader – yeah!
Marsha Piper – getting her hands all messy with
the little ones and
Robin Forgette for being a great assistant on the Last
day of VBS!
The older kids were led by Sharon Brezina and Bob Krakovich. So, how many water balloon fights were there?
Lots of water games and lots of fun.
Thanks to Chris Beaudry who hung around to help out a
few nights –
Great help in the kitchen!
